The Illinois State Board of Education has released a Request for Sealed Proposal (RFSP) for an entity or entities with human resources to assist in the coordination of various aspects of the State Board of Education’s interventions in low-performing school districts and to provide technical assistance services to school districts that are participating in educational reform or school improvement initiatives. The RFSP has been posted on the Procurement Policy Board’s website.

A very interesting report titled “State of Illinois FY2013 Budget Roadmap” was released Monday by the Civic Federation – not to be confused with the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, a group of wealthy business leaders who have been campaigning to cut public pensions.

When I think about today’s opening of the Spring Session of the General Assembly it reminds me of the challenges superintendents face with winter weather. The weather forecasts provide valuable information, but that alone normally is not enough information to cancel classes because of the unpredictable nature of weather. Sometimes, superintendents have to monitor the conditions frequently and may even have to check the roads themselves.
