IASA/ISBE Name Director of Academic Empowerment
IASA and the Illinois State Board of Education have partnered together to create a new position by refocusing an existing state grant. This position will provide an additional layer of support to districts with a specific focus on improving student performance. This work will be concentrated in districts that serve a high percentage of underrepresented students in urban type settings.
Following the screening process and interviews, Dr. Mable Alfred was selected from a field of applicants that were interviewed for the role of Director of Academic Empowerment (DAE). She will serve in the role and will coordinate their work with the local superintendent.
At no additional cost to eligible school districts, the DAE will provide on site and flexible support for schools. Eligible districts identified by ISBE have been contacted about this service, which will be available throughout FY 25. Examples of support include strategic planning, review of instructional programming, coordination of culture/climate surveys, SEL programming support or any initiative happening in schools designed to accelerate academic improvement.
